What's New? VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Colophon

Bizgrok Web Design upgraded the design of the Leffingwell House Museum (LHM) web site in October 2006. Bizgrok has been continuing to update the LMH site since the redesign was completed and has continued to update the LMH site since the redesign was completed. The LHM site has grown from a half dozen pages of mostly static or historical information to an active site with nearly 100 pages and documents. Since winter of 2006, newsletters have been converted to .pdf files and available online as have the Society of Founders annual reports. The yearly Events listing is enhanced by articles about upcoming events and photos after events occur.

As a service to the LHM, the Society of Founders of Norwich and the community, all work is performed without charge or fees of any kind. Bizgrok donates over 100 hours each year providing markup, editing and image creation and photo editing.

Bizgrok has performed pro bono work as well as offered special rates and services to non-profit and not-for-profit organizations since its founders began providing their initial Internet company called "DownCity" in 1997.

Bizgrok works hand-in-hand with the officers, managers and volunteers who operate, maintain and celebrate the Leffingwell House Museum with their time, imaginations and hard-work. Take at look at the 2009 Events Calendar and interspersed between the educational, traditonal or holiday events such as the Painting With Light, Founding Mothers Exhibit, the Volunteers Picnic Party or the Fall Festival, you'll find days set aside for "Spring Cleaning", "Docent Training", and Gardening Days.

Technical Information

Bizgrok's design utilizes standard XHTML (Extensible HyperText Markup Language, an XML-based successor to HTML) and CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) to separate presentation from content and ensure future flexibility. This approach contributes to site accessibility.

The web site will perform best in a web browser, such as Mozilla Firefox or Opera, that fully supports these and other Internet standards. It has been tested, however, against all major browsers, with the goal that it function and look substantially the same in the latest versions of all actively-developed browsers.

Web site pages (and other files) are generated using the open source PHP (PHP Hypertext Processor) scripting language.

Each page on the site includes rich metadata, including a PICS label and elements from the Dublin Core, for optimal categorization of its content.
