What's New? VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Open House Day

Open House, June 9 2007.

The Leffingwell House Museum was abuzz with activity and visitors Saturday, June 9th as it participated in CT Museum Open House Day and its own opening day for the summer 2007 season.

While it rained outside, visitors were greeted with sunny smiles from tour guides as they were shown through the colonial era home first built in 1675. Each room of the museum has a separate story to tell and visitors had the opportunity to watch and visit with Elizabeth Moldenhauer as she worked on both the high wheel and the flax spinning wheels or Kyle and April Calhoun and College Intern Angela Cardinal as they worked in the library cataloging books and other items, enjoy a treat of salad and fresh fruit in the colonial kitchen and learn the art of pillow lace making from visiting members of the New England Lace Group (nelg.us) Winann Steinmetz and Clare Settle. ()

The New England Lace Group is comprised of a community of lace enthusiasts living in the New England states. NELG meets every third Saturday in the Joshua Hyde Library in Sturbridge, MA. Programs at meetings vary from visits from lace dignitaries to showings of lacerelated videos and informal laceins.
