What's New? VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Blankets for Norwich Come in from Surrounding Towns

August 10, 2009:
Press Release, Beryl Fishbone, Program Coordinator

"It's been very heartwarming. We've collected over 80 blankets, fleeces, throws, quilts, and afghans in the past two weeks. People have brought sleeping bags and blankets from Hebron, Salem, Lebanon and Lisbon!" enthused Jay Deming, President of the Society of the Founders of Norwich on Saturday.

The goal is to collect 350 blankets for the use and distribution at the Norwich Shelters, Red Cross and Salvation Army this winter. Clean well-worn blankets and towels will be distributed to area animal shelters, as they need warmth too.

A child's sleeping bag contained in a frog bag has a loose strap and a few of the other gently used blankets and sleeping bags have small tears or loose bindings. We asking for a few volunteers armed with needles and thread to come any time between noon and 4 PM on Saturday afternoons to help us make the needed repairs.

The new and gently used blanket drive continues every Saturday through August at the Leffingwell House Museum, 348 Washington Street, Norwich, CT.
