The Leffingwell House Museun Wish List

Volunteering

Volunteering with the Leffingwell House Museum and Society of Founders may involve helping out for a few hours on the day of an event, becoming part of a crew of volunteers for an afternoon to decorate or clean the Inn or becoming involved in one of our projects that are planned far in advance and work on from time to time over a series of months. Whatever time you have available to help - whatever talents or interests you have to contribute - we will find a volunteering opportunity for you!

Another way to help keep the Leffingwell House Museum is to donate an item from our Wish List.

Below is a list of currently active Volunteering Opportunities.

December 3rd Craft Fair

Teachers and demonstrators of crafts are needed. Do you know of a craft from Europe, Asia, Africa, South America, The Islands that might have been brought to the US in the 1700 and 1800's? Do you, your friends or neighbors know how to do or teach this craft? Would they do it on Dec. 3rd? This is not a craft fair to just buy items but to learn how to make the items. Melodye Whatley and Ingrid Skinner, The Bowed Psaltery Psongsters will provide music. Junior docents will be needed to help as well. To volunteer or for more information, please call Beryl Fishbone at 860-887-9000.

Colonial Text Book Exhibit

Exhibit will run through July 2007, August 2007 & September 2007.

In the tavern room and scattered throughout the Inn are books. We are looking for someone interested in working on a display of some of the textbooks we have in our collection. While in the colonial period only some of the children were privileged to attend school, many did have some home schooling and we have a few textbooks that we could develop into an exhibit.

Examine the books we have on display and in the archives. Choose what we would like to illustrate. Make copies of what we would like to illustrate as samples and examples. Create a display that would highlight the texts without damaging the books. Advertise the exhibit. Guide and speak through the exhibit. Clean for the exhibit. Call Beryl.
